Ice Cream!...Math

30 September 2015

Hello!

We were working away at counting money amounts today, in the most delicious way possible. We visited our Room 128 ice cream parlour, and chose a selection of ice cream flavours; each with their own math challenge. We chose some simple ice cream scoops, such as vanilla and strawberry (white and pink :) ) and we pushed ourselves to try some more exquisite flavours that asked us to add and subtract numbers under 99¢, and even more decadent math challenges with chocolate amounts up to $9.99. It was a frenzy of choosing our ice cream scoops and counting up the total! We even had a contest to see who could make the most expensive ice cream cone with five scoops! We used our money manipulative to represent the money amounts, as well. We will continue to look at money coins for the rest of the week in terms of fractions (parts of a dollar).

We also continued on with our Literacy Centres today, and we are doing a great job learning about teamwork and leadership!

Agendas:
-$2.00 donations for Terry Fox day are greatly appreciated!
-Tomorrow is our first pizza day! Please remember to still bring morning/afternoon snacks and drinks for the day!
