We had a great first day back after our long weekend and Easter celebrations! Today we began the voting process for the Prix Peuplier literary prize, that is awarded to Canadian artists through votes from students of schools that read each of the top ten finalists. Today we began by reading "L'homme sans chaussettes", by Jennifer Couëlle, which tells the story of children showing small acts of kindness toward those less fortunate. This was the perfect connection to our recent Easter learning in our Religion class, and we discussed how reaching out to others can help us to be more like Jesus.
In Religion class, we learned about the important symbols of Easter (the 'Lamb of God', flowers and Easter eggs which symbolize birth and new beginnings, as well as the cross).
We also spent some time learning about the meaning of Easter eggs, and how they come from Eastern European traditions. We made our own eggs decorated to show symbols of Easter, with some very creative results!
We then worked in groups to create a survey that we will use later on this week to learn about our participation in Mass, and understanding of Easter Symbols...Check out our great work!
