Hi parents!

Thank you to everyone who submitted their purple Parent Questionnaire forms today! They will be very helpful to prepare for our interviews next week!

We were putting our creative minds to work today with our Writer's Workshop! We mapped out our story of The Paper Bag Princess (La princesse à la robe de papier) by Robert Munsch. We then took on the task of writing the same story, but from another character's perspective. We wrote some amazing stories from the point of view of the dragon, Prince Ronald, and even some creative new characters! We also read the story, Un histoire à quatre voix (Voices in the Park), to discuss how characters in a story can explain the same situation with very different views and opinions.

We had a very busy day today! We began the day with a Three-Act math problem. We looked at the video, which you can find {HERE}. We then worked in groups to use our knowledge from the clue video to find a creative solution to the problem. We had some very creative results! We maintained our focus of communicating our thinking and showing evidence of our problem solving steps, rather than simply achieving a correct answer.

Thank you to all who have returned the Parent Conference schedule form! Please be sure to sign up as soon as possible to reserve your spot. Tomorrow, you will receive a questionnaire to help you provide valuable insight and ideas that will help to steer the the conversation when we meet. We will also be completing our Self Evaluations tomorrow, which will be your child's input toward the conference.

This week, we are using our Social Studies topics to discuss seeing experiences through different perspectives. We will be using our November reading to examine perspectives, and will be doing some creative writing fun with some twists on some of our beloved stories from new perspectives. We can't wait to post our work to show you this week! We are also completing our graphing unit in math, and will be moving toward our next unit of addition, subtraction and multiplication and division (as collective and equal groups). We will be working on our first SCOOT session this week with math word problems and fast-facts. Stay tuned for more information!

We have begun our Author's Tea afternoons at St. Patrick! This week, two students from our class will be sharing their creative writing in the celebration with students from other classes. If your child does any creative writing (stories, exposés, poems, songs, etc.) in English or French at home, please be sure to send it in and he/she may be next! Our next Author's Tea is coming up at the beginning of December, so get writing!

Your child received a pink form today to schedule your Progress Report Card interview. Please complete the form and return it ASAP to get your desired time. You can also send me a message via the Class Dojo app to schedule your time from home! We also received a white letter outlining our safety procedures for Halloween on Friday. We are not permitted to wear masks (hoods and hats that do not cover the face are allowed), nor will we bring accessories such as wands or swords. Students are responsible for any costume pieces that may be lost or damaged.

Today we put our artistic talents to work as we graphed our results from yesterday's Halloween surveys. We began the day looking at the FSL Homework Toolbox webpage to see examples of various bar graphs, pictographs, pie charts, etc. We discussed what we can and cannot learn from a graph of data. Take a look at some examples below:

How many students are in groupe 1?

Why is it sometimes easier to use percentages instead of the actual number?

Do we know which was more popular among the boys and girls?

What is the order of these sports from least to most popular?

How many girls like bananas? How many boys like oranges? And here are just a few examples of our awesome work!
