-Hat Day tomorrow
-Popcorn orders due tomorrow!

HELLOOOOO MIAMI!
We had an exciting surprise this morning! We have joined up with AcadeMir Charter School West in Miami, Florida as writing pen pals! The Grade 2 class at AcadeMir is equally excited to start corresponding with us! Throughout the year, we will mail letters, Christmas cards, Valentine's, etc. This will be a great way to learn about other cultures, from children just like us!

Today we also continued our work with Isabelle Iguane, and the "i" sound (like in feet, meet, seat). Be sure to look out for this sound in your book bag readings this week! We will be doing some writing practice with Isabelle Iguane tomorrow!

Hi parents!

Agendas:
- Popcorn orders are due on Thursday!
-Tomorrow is our first pita day! Don't forget your extra snacks for lunch!

Today we began our multiplication and division unit. Please note that we do not focus on multiplication facts (times tables) in Grade 2, rather on building the concept that multiplication is the combining of equal groups to make one large group, and division is splitting up one large group into smaller, equal groups. We also use the idea that multiplication is really repeated addition (4 x 3 = 12 is also 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 or 4 + 4 + 4). Be sure to use these ideas in your conversations at home- shopping and using money is a great place to start! We completed the Krispy Kreme donut math problem to get us thinking about equal groups, and you can see the link {HERE}!

Today we also looked at the Apostles' Creed, and discussed that it is the proclaiming of our beliefs, and also that anyone can be an Apostle, as shown in our actions and words! We are working on short skits to show common conflicts at school, and we are showing cautionary tales of how not to handle a conflict, and then a representation of "What Would Jesus Do?"

Finally, we brainstormed all the things that are created by God, and will use these lists further throughout the week.

Happy Friday!

Today, we were working hard at representing addition and subtraction equations with pictures and symbols. We used our interactive notebooks to make a flip book of examples. Take a look at some of our excellent work!

Today we also read the story, The Name Jar. We will use this as part of our Fully Alive religion work next week. Our focus will be on sensitivity of feelings, and acceptance of diversity. You can find the video of the book on YouTube {HERE}

You can find a copy of our weekly newsletter {HERE}

This week, on Remembrance day, we learned about the history of Winnie the Pooh, and how this bear is related to Canada's military history.

You can see a CTV News video about the history of Winnie the Pooh {HERE}

You can also see an additional reading {HERE}

Hello parents!

We enjoyed a beautiful Remembrance Day assembly today with prayers, songs and symbolic gifts brought up to the altar. Our class made a lovely cross decorated with poppies with Mme Holmes. We also continued our liturgy experience in class by having our first official liturgy. We learned about how families can be very diverse, and we learned that a family is made up of people who love and support one another, and who enjoy spending time together. Our job for tonight was to promise one thing that we would do to show our love and appreciation for everyone at home. Look out for our acts of kindness!

Agendas:
-Our youngest/only students received a dark green letter outlining our class' responsibilities for our Christmas grocery drive. Our class will bring in rice, pasta, canned vegetables, paper towels, and ketchup. Donations will be greatly appreciated to help those in need this holiday season!
-Pizza day tomorrow; please remember to bring extra snacks!

Hello parents!

Thank you to those who have returned the Progress Report envelopes signed. They will be reused for our February and June reports as well. You are welcome to join us at 10:30 tomorrow for our Remembrance Day assembly and liturgy. We will be displaying the very thoughtful cross and poppy art project that we made with Madame Holmes.

Today we were back as secret agent spies, and putting our spy skills to work with our descriptive writing! We secretly observed one classmate throughout the day, and recorded our observations in full sentences. We then had fun guessing at who was spying on us, with some surprising results! Tomorrow we will be reading L'agent Secret story in class, and a copy will come home for your child to share with you!

Secret Agent Math!

Today we were sneaky spies on the case of the trickiest math problems, in an attempt to save the world from the terrible word problem! We understood that solving a case requires us to use pictures and words in addition to calculations when showing our work. We made sure to explain our thinking, because that is more important than simply a correct answer! We used our Top Secret spy portfolios as well as our cool soy gadgets to solve our problems. We will be using our spy skills tomorrow with our SCOOT! math, and some spying for our descriptive writing!
